ABOUT ME

My journey has been one of resilience, transformation, and deep healing. I’ve moved through complex trauma and life challenges that have shaped not only who I am, but how I show up as a therapist, father, friend, and advocate. These experiences fuel my commitment to walking alongside others in their own healing.

A core part of my work is helping people reconnect with their inner strength and self-compassion. One modality that’s been especially powerful for me is Internal Family Systems (IFS). Through completing the IFS Foundations course, I’ve learned to navigate internal emotional landscapes with more clarity and care, and I help my clients do the same. I believe that by cultivating an inner environment of love, acceptance, and curiosity, we can begin to shift long-held patterns, manage trauma triggers, and release habits that no longer serve us.

My therapeutic lens is also shaped by my role as a parent to two daughters in the LGBTQIA+ community. Watching them move through a world that too often doesn’t affirm who they are has only strengthened my dedication to justice, advocacy, and creating spaces of safety and dignity.

I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree at Northwestern University, a step that reflects my belief in lifelong growth. I integrate practices like mindfulness, breathwork, and meditation to support clients in reconnecting with their authentic selves.

At the heart of my practice are the values of authenticity, empathy, connection, and trust. These guide how I build relationships and hold space for the work of healing and change.

Duncan’s professional growth and clinical practice are under the direct supervision and guidance of Kayley Harrington, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) She/Her.

Why I Do This Work

“I do this work because I’ve lived it. I've seen what it takes to survive, to rebuild, and to reclaim a sense of self when the world tries to take it from you. My role isn’t to fix anyone, it’s to walk alongside people as they find their way back to who they’ve always been beneath the pain.”

In our sessions, I often invite you to slow down and check in with your body, what are you feeling, sensing, or carrying in this moment? From there, we might explore what shows up using Internal Family Systems (IFS), meeting and listening to your inner parts with compassion and curiosity.

Some days, we might lean into creative tools like art-making or narrative exercises to give voice to feelings that don’t always come easily. Other times, we may focus on breathwork or somatic grounding to help you settle and feel safe before we go deeper.

My goal is to co-create a space where you feel supported, where healing can happen at your own pace, with room for both vulnerability and growth.

  • Breathwork, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Reframing, Integrative Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Neurodivergent Acceptance/Awareness, Psychodynamic, Strength-based, and Trauma-informed Therapy.

  • Trauma Survivor Supporter & Advocate, Penal System Justice, Neurodivergence Justice, and Marginalized Community (all-inclusive) Ally/Advocate/Supporter.

  • Our work together will unfold at a pace that feels safe for you. I often begin by inviting clients to notice what’s happening in their body, what’s coming up emotionally or physically, without rushing to fix or analyze it. From there, we might explore together using tools like Internal Family Systems, narrative processing, or creative expression when words aren’t quite enough. If you're feeling overwhelmed or disconnected, I’ll often integrate somatic grounding or breathwork to help you come back to your center. My intention is to co-create a space that honors both your resilience and your vulnerability, where you feel deeply seen, without pressure to perform or change too quickly.

  • I bring a steady, non-judgmental presence to therapy, someone who’s here to walk alongside you, not lead from ahead. I hold space with a gentle curiosity and a deep belief in your inner wisdom, even if that wisdom feels far away right now. I tend to move slowly and relationally, often returning to the body or the present moment as a starting point. While I bring structure and tools when needed, I also value the power of pausing, of letting silence speak, and of being with what’s true without needing to rush to solutions. My style is warm, collaborative, and anchored in compassionate attention, always shaped by your needs and pace.

How We Can Work Together

Clients often reach out when they are:

  • Processing trauma or navigating life after harm, and looking for advocacy-informed, trauma-attuned support that centers their lived reality.

  • Feeling isolated or unseen within systems of oppression, including carceral, educational, or medical institutions, seeking space for justice-oriented healing.

  • Exploring neurodivergent identity and wanting a space where difference is embraced, not pathologized.

  • Living with complex emotions or dissociative experiences and wanting to build nervous system safety, trust, and integration over time.

  • Wanting support from someone who honors collective struggle, community care, and intersectional identities, especially for marginalized or multiply oppressed folks.

No matter the reason, Duncan’s approach combines somatic, narrative, and integrative practices in a collaborative process that honors your pace, affirms your identities, and centers liberation as part of healing.
