ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Eben. I’m glad you found your way here.

I provide gender affirming, trauma informed therapy for transgender, non binary, and queer people, as well as young adults and adults navigating life transitions, substance use, relationship dynamics, and complex mental health experiences. Many of my clients are exploring identity, polyamory or open relationships, kink and BDSM dynamics, or seeking support through anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.

As a queer trans man, I understand how important it can be to work with a therapist who already understands the realities of gender identity, transition, and queer community life. My goal is to create a space where you do not have to explain the basics of who you are in order to feel respected.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade working in community mental health, housing services, medical case management, and outpatient care. I have supported people navigating substance use, homelessness, HIV care, trauma, and serious mental health conditions including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Those experiences continue to shape how I approach therapy today.

My work draws from feminist therapy, person centered therapy, strengths based practice, parts work, and trauma informed care. I also use approaches like Motivational Interviewing and CBT when helpful. Therapy with me focuses on understanding your story while also building practical tools that support real change in everyday life.

If you are looking for a gender affirming therapist in Rhode Island or Pennsylvania who understands queer relationships, harm reduction, and the complexity of identity, therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what you are carrying, and reconnect with your own clarity and resilience.

Why I Do This Work

“I do this work because I have seen how often people are asked to shrink themselves in order to be understood. Therapy should be a place where that pressure lifts. A place where identity is not questioned, where survival strategies are understood with compassion, and where people can begin to build lives that feel more honest, steady, and their own.”

Therapeutic Approaches

Eben’s work integrates gender-affirming, trauma-informed therapy with practical tools that support emotional regulation, identity exploration, and recovery.

Core approaches

• Gender-affirming therapy for transgender and non-binary clients
• Trauma-informed therapy
• Feminist therapy
• Person-centered therapy
• Strengths-based therapy
• Parts work (inner parts / internal systems)

Evidence-based tools

• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Motivational Interviewing
• Harm reduction approaches for substance use
• Practical coping and regulation strategies

These approaches are always adapted to each person’s needs. Therapy with Eben focuses on helping clients feel respected, understood, and supported in building meaningful change.

My Approach in Practice

My approach to therapy begins with understanding the context of someone’s life. Mental health does not exist separately from identity, community, or the systems people move through every day. My work is grounded in gender affirming and trauma informed care, with particular attention to the experiences of transgender, non binary, and queer clients.

Many people I work with are navigating trauma, substance use, housing instability, relationship structures such as polyamory or kink, or major life transitions. Therapy should be a space where these realities can be spoken about openly and without judgment.

My practice draws from feminist therapy, person centered therapy, strengths based work, parts work, and trauma informed care. I also incorporate tools like Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when they are helpful, often through a harm reduction lens.

At the center of my work is collaboration. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you build clarity, practical tools, and a stronger sense of trust in your own direction.

Clients often reach out when they are:

Exploring gender identity or transition, and wanting support from a therapist who understands transgender, non-binary, and queer experiences.

Navigating polyamory, open relationships, kink, or BDSM dynamics, and looking for therapy that approaches these topics without stigma.

Working through trauma, anxiety, depression, or grief, and wanting tools that support emotional stability and everyday functioning.

Navigating substance use or recovery, and seeking therapy that respects harm reduction and personal autonomy.

Living with complex mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or dual diagnoses, and wanting care that feels practical and compassionate.

Facing major life changes, such as identity exploration, relationship shifts, housing instability, or rebuilding after difficult experiences.

Looking for a therapist who understands queer and trans communities, and who approaches therapy with curiosity, respect, and collaboration.

In our work together, we focus on building clarity, practical support, and a stronger sense of trust in your own direction.
