ABOUT ME

Watercolor illustration of a light green lily flower with six petals, yellow-orange stamens, and green leaves.

Hi, I’m Li (she/her) - a Master’s Clinical Social Work Intern from Aurora University.

In the therapy room, I aim to create a safe, collaborative, and supportive space where healing and growth can take root. I work with adolescents and adults navigating challenges such as suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression, and anxiety.

My approach is trauma-informed and client-centered, guided by systems theory and an anti-oppression lens. I also draw from motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to support you in finding meaningful strategies for change while honoring your lived experience.

At the heart of my practice is a belief that therapy works best when it feels like a partnership, where you bring your story, and together we work toward the life you want to build.

Throughout Li’s internship, Li’s professional growth and clinical practice are directly supervised by Andrea Thompson, (She/Her) LICSW.

Why I Do This Work

“I believe healing starts when people feel truly seen, not just for their struggles, but for their full story. I do this work to create spaces where adolescents and adults navigating deep pain can reconnect with their worth, resilience, and agency. My approach is rooted in the belief that change is possible when therapy honors lived experience, cultural identity, and the courage it takes to show up.”

My Approach in Practice

When we meet, my first goal is to create a space where you feel safe enough to exhale and just be yourself. I see therapy as a partnership, where you bring your story and I bring curiosity, compassion, and tools that we can shape together. Healing doesn’t have to look one certain way, and I want our sessions to reflect who you are and what feels meaningful for you.

I’m guided by a trauma-informed and anti-oppression lens, which means I hold awareness of the systems and histories that shape our lives. I often draw from CBT, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing, but I use them flexibly so they support rather than limit you. Sometimes that looks like slowing down to notice your emotions, sometimes it’s building strategies to help you through the week, and sometimes it’s just having a steady place to put words to things you haven’t said out loud before.

How We Can Work Together

  • CBT, mindfulness practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), narrative therapy approaches, talk therapy, and trauma-informed care techniques. These modalities aim to empower clients by providing tools for self-exploration, emotional healing, and personal transformation within a culturally sensitive and supportive environment.

  • I support clients in developing healthier responses to stress, building skills for emotional regulation, and nurturing personal growth.

  • In our time together, you can expect a space that feels steady, warm, and collaborative. I invite you to bring your full self, your questions, emotions, and hopes, without pressure to perform or have it all figured out. We might spend time untangling heavy feelings, exploring the impact of systems and relationships on your life, or noticing the small ways your body carries both stress and resilience.

I bring curiosity and cultural humility into every session, and I’ll check in with you often to make sure the pace feels right. Some days may feel more focused on processing, while others may lean into grounding, problem-solving, or simply resting in the safety of being heard. My goal is not to rush you, but to walk alongside you as you begin to make meaning, practice new skills, and reclaim the parts of yourself that deserve care.

Clients often come to me when they are:

  • Carrying stories of migration, culture, or language and wanting a place where those parts of their lives are held with respect rather than erased or misunderstood.

  • Living at the intersections of queerness, race, or systemic harm and seeking a space where the weight of oppression is named and not placed back on them.

  • Navigating intergenerational wounds and hoping to understand how family histories and legacies live on in their bodies, choices, and relationships.

  • Searching for belonging after feeling othered in schools, workplaces, or communities, and wanting to feel grounded in their own identity and values.

  • Learning how to soften self-criticism and shame while building a relationship to themselves that is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and agency.

  • Exploring how healing connects to justice and desiring therapy that honors both personal growth and collective liberation.

My role is not to rush you toward an answer, but to walk beside you as you notice what healing, self-acceptance, and freedom can look like in your life.
